ABOUT
Type 1 Way Ticket is the 1st travel company operating programs designed with T1D needs in mind. We provide fun, safe, and supportive environments for our travelers to discover the boundless possibilities of life with diabetes.
Our programs & staff build travelers’ skills, independence, and confidence so that they are able to explore the world and its wonder and approach new places and experiences knowing diabetes can’t and won’t stop them.
T1WT has given me SO many helpful tips, and it is so encouraging for me to see an example of someone living with Type 1, doing things I dream of doing, and not letting it stop you.
T1WT programs offer an exciting combination of outdoor adventure, cultural immersion, and conservation activities that enable travelers to see the world, know the world, and understand their place in it while trying new things and building new skills. T1D management and education is factored into the daily itinerary, so travelers never have to miss a beat of the fun and excitement.
T1WT has developed tools and activities that help our travelers reflect on their triumphs and tribulations with diabetes, set goals, cultivate deeper senses of independence and self-confidence, and understand their capacities for impact on a global scale. Our curriculum promotes travelers’ health, well-being, and discovery of their passions and purpose.
T1WT programs are staffed by expert T1D program leaders and local guides who are dedicated to facilitating safe, fun-filled, and meaningful adventures for travelers. Our staff have worked with youth and traveled extensively, speak multiple languages, are certified in wilderness first aid, and have expertise in managing diabetes in their program country.
Unlike other travel programs, where you orient with the group and leaders for the first time on day one, enrollment in a Type 1 Way Ticket program encompasses high-touch pre-departure support. Our Dialed™ Leadership Curriculum helps families emotionally and logistically prepare for their adventures. Through digital content, group Q&As, and optional 1:1 coaching, we meet each family where they are and empower teens to hit the ground running on arrival.
T1WT empowers travelers with a community of fellow T1Ds who will cheer them on and help them through the highs and lows both during and long-after their program. T1WT travelers come from diverse backgrounds yet are united by shared diabetes experiences. Together, they can soak up new sights, cultures, activities, and connections, knowing they are surrounded by an entire community of people who understand them.
T1WT is not another generic tourism company. Our one-of-a-kind itineraries follow sustainable travel guidelines and offer off-the-beaten path experiences with in-country partners with whom we’ve developed relationships over many years and trained on working with T1D youth. As such, our travelers have unparalleled access and insight into culture, customs, practices, and global issues from local perspectives.

We adhere to robust risk prevention and emergency protocols everywhere we go.
